2. Data We Collect

When using ChessIQo, the following data is collected:

  • Registration data: First name, last name, email address, username, age (optional)
  • Usage data: Training progress, solved exercises, game statistics, chess ELO estimate
  • Imported data: Chess games from Chess.com, Lichess, or scanned score sheets
  • Technical data: Device type, operating system, app version
  • Camera data: The app may use the camera to scan handwritten chess score sheets. Captured images are processed locally on the device and sent to our server for text recognition. Images are not permanently stored after processing.

3. Purpose of Data Processing

The collected data is used for:

  • Providing and personalizing the training experience
  • Creating strengths and weakness profiles
  • Progress tracking and statistics
  • Improving the app and user experience
  • Technical troubleshooting

4. Data Storage

Training data is primarily stored locally on the user's device. For account management and optional cloud synchronization, we use Supabase (hosted in the EU). Analysis data is processed on a server in Germany (Hetzner).

5. Third-Party Services

The following third-party services are used:

  • Supabase (EU) — Authentication and cloud storage
  • PostHog (EU) — Anonymized usage analytics for product improvement
  • Resend — Email delivery (confirmation emails)
  • Chess.com / Lichess API — Import of chess games (only at the user's request)

6. Analytics and Tracking

We use PostHog for app usage analytics. Anonymized usage data is collected to improve the app. No personal data is shared with advertisers. Session replays may be enabled to identify technical issues.

7. Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Access: You can request information about your stored data at any time.
  • Rectification: Inaccurate data can be corrected.
  • Erasure: You can request the deletion of your data.
  • Data portability: You can receive your data in a common format.
  • Objection: You can object to the processing of your data.

8. Data Deletion

When your account is deleted, all personal data will be removed. Anonymized analytical data may be retained for statistical purposes.

9. Data Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your data. Data transmission is encrypted (TLS/SSL). Passwords are stored in hashed form.
